Phase 1, located south of current developed park area
A Master Plan for the 352 acre Morgan Creek Park was completed in 2015. This plan provides opportunities to modernize park amenities in response to community input and the recent Highway 100 completion with an expected increase in residential growth. The new park development will occur on the south side and complement the current campground, arboretum, trails and natural areas.
Construction for Phase 1 will begin in 2020 and will include:
• Entrance road on E Ave
• Inclusive playground and parking areas
• Accessible restroom
• Picnic areas
• Walking paths
• Development of the “Highway 100” trailwithin the park boundaries connecting to the Cherokee Trail in Cedar Rapids.
Phase 1 natural resource enhancements will include wetlands and bio-swales; development of native prairie habitat; and a storm water management system to benefit the park and nearby private development. Additional park redevelopment phases are planned within the next 5-15 years. These plans include an event lodge, continued trail connections, arboretum expansion, campground expansion, stream and natural resource enhancements and so much more for the betterment of the community!
