Don't Let Asthma Slow You Down

What do secondhand smoke, dust mites, pets, mold, cockroaches and chemical irritants all have in common? They are all indoor triggers of asthma attacks. Asthma affects many children and adults in our community. “In fact, about 1 in 13 adults in Linn County currently have asthma,” says Pramod Dwivedi, Health Director, Linn County Public Health.

Asthma is one of the most common serious chronic diseases of childhood. In addition, asthma is a leading cause of hospital emergency department visits and school absenteeism. To increase public awareness of the risks faced by those with asthma, Linn County Public Health is joining the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to participate in Asthma Awareness Month during the month of May.
