The Board of Supervisors will hold a Formal Session at 9:00 AM in the Board Room of the Administrative Office Building at 930 1st Street SW.

Alfred Ramirez, Exec. Dir. of Diversity Focus – Presentation on efforts to promote diversity within the local workforce and population.

Review Smoking Policy and cessation provisions

RESOLUTIONS

Resolution suspending taxes for a Linn County resident as she is unable to contribute to the public revenue by reason of age, infirmity, or both.

CONTRACTS & AGREEMENTS

Approve and authorize chair to sign proposal from LGA in the amount of not to exceed $7460.00 for LIFTS grate replacement. Approve project budget of $9345 + 10% contingency.

Approve Purchase Order number 4153 to Lynch Ford for $9,000 for the purchase of a 2003 Chevrolet Impala to replace the trade in of the 1998 Chevrolet Venture in the County’s motor pool.

Approve and authorize Chair to sign proposal form Midwest Glazing for replacement of entry doors at Fillmore Building and door repairs at Health Department in the amount of $19,839.00.

Authorize Chairperson to sign 2007 Benefits Renewal for Linn County Contract with Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Iowa effective July 1, 2007.

Authorize Chairperson to sign the following quotes for work at ABBE Center (County Home Rd.) and approve project budget for each as quoted + 10 % contingency.
· Relocate double door (Dean Driscoll Construction $3432);
· East Wing Sprinkler modifications (Iowa Fire Protection - $18, 245);
· East Wing Fire Alarm Upgrade (Nelson Electric - $11,500).

OTHER
Authorize Board to sign letter to EMA documenting the Board’s 2007 EMA Commission representative and designated alternate.

MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
CEDAR RAPIDS, LINN COUNTY, IOWA
WEDNESDAY, MAY 9, 2007 8:00 A.M.

The Board met in formal session. Present: Chairperson Barron, Vice Chairperson Langston and Supervisor Houser. Board members voting “AYE” unless otherwise noted.

The Board met with Elected Officials & Dept. Heads to discuss the following:

Lisa Powell, HR Dir., presented a copy of the Linn County Smoking Policy and cessation provisions for the group to review.

Alfred Ramirez, Exec. Dir. of Diversity Focus, gave a presentation on efforts to promote diversity within the local workforce and population.

The Board recessed at 8:45 a.m. and reconvened at 9:00 a.m.

The Pledge of Allegiance was lead by Chairperson Barron.

Motion by Langston, seconded by Houser to approve Consent Agenda as follows:

Resolution 2007-5-59, suspending taxes for a Linn County resident as she is unable to contribute to the public revenue by reason of age, infirmity, or both.

Resolution 2007-5-60, suspending taxes for a Linn County resident as he is unable to contribute to the public revenue by reason of age, infirmity, or both.

The Board adopted Proclamation: Linn County Law Enforcement Recognition Week May 13-19, 2007.

The Board adopted Proclamation: Older American’s Month

Motion by Houser, seconded by Langston to remove the following from the agenda: Contract for construction of three new offices on 3rd Floor of Witwer Bldg. for General Assistance.

Motion by Houser, seconded by Langston to approve claims as follows:#70411480-#70411530 in the amt. of $1,536,387.18; and #70411531-#70411850 in the amt. of $543,307.90.

The Board received and placed on file a letter from David Davis regarding 911 Emergency Call Centers in Linn County.

Chairperson Barron reported that she attended the Solid Waste Agency Operations Board mtg.; Elected Officials mtg.; MHDD Mtg.; KCCK Fundraiser; Conservation Park tour; Mt. Vernon Chalk Art; Rotary; Cedar Rapids/County joint mtg.; Creative Economy mtg.; and National Czech & Slovak Comm. Mtg.

Supervisor Langston reported that she attended the luncheon at CSPS; Rotary; Downtown Dist. mtg. Dean Wheatley farewell reception; Health Steering Comm. Conference call; Cedar Rapids/County joint mtg.; Robins & Fairfax City Council meetings; and Elected Officials mtg.

Supervisor Houser reported that he attended the Industrial Career Day at Jefferson High School; Elected Officials mtg.; Rotary; Dean Wheatley’s farewell reception; Cedar Rapids/County joint mtg.; luncheon with China delegation; Prairieburg Council meeting; and two evenings working with Sheriff’s reserve.
