Attorney
 The Linn County Attorney is a constitutionally elected official. On July 1, 2010, Assistant Linn County Attorney Jerry Vander Sanden was sworn in to serve as County Attorney. This vacancy was created when Linn County Attorney Harold Denton retired June 30 after serving in office since 2002. Vander Sanden ran unopposed for the office in the November 2010 election and was sworn in to serve as County Attorney in January 2011. The County Attorney is charged with the prosecution of criminal violations as defined by the Code of Iowa. The County Attorney's Office is comprised of 20 Assistant Linn County attorneys and 15 support staff personnel and is divided into three divisions: Criminal, Juvenile and Civil. BACK TO TOP

Auditor Joel D. Miller, CERA

I am your County Auditor. I am an autonomous elected official of the County. I exercise most of my duties independently of the Board of Supervisors and other elected officials. I manage the day-to-day operations of the Office of Auditor with the assistance of deputy auditors and managers. The Office is comprised of multiple departments and 19 full-time employees. During major elections, we employ up to 50 temporary employees and over 600 precinct election workers. We work as a team! ---JDM

Child Development Center
 Linn County Child Development Center is a full-day early childhood program based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for children from 3 to 5 years of age. The center’s primary mission is to offer high quality child development service to families with low incomes and to children with special needs, so parents can hold employment or participate in college or job training. County Conservation Board
 The Linn County Conservation Board - since being established by an overwhelming vote of the people of Linn County in 1958, has acquired a total of 28 areas and 7,015 acres as places to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life and recreate in the outdoors. Linn County Conservation Department offers parks, natural areas, preserves, historic sites, wetlands, and many educational and recreational opportunities. The Cedar and Wapsipinicon Rivers cascade from NW to SE across the county and offer many boating, fishing, and diverse water recreation opportunities. Each year, the one million+ visitors to the Linn County Parks provide an economic impact to our various local economies in excess of $42 million.

Emergency Management
 The Emergency Management Agency (EMA) coordinates emergency management programming for all residents and communities in Linn County, Iowa. The EMA addresses all risks that threaten the health, safety, and welfare of the community, including natural disasters, man-made or technological incidents, and civil actions.

Finance And Budget

The Finance and Budget Department oversees the Linn County budgeting process, audit, and financial reporting. Finance and Budget also provides ongoing management services for the County. Historic Preservation
 The Linn County Historic Preservation Commission is comprised of nine Linn County residents who work to identify, preserve, and protect historic structures. The Commission administers and monitors the Linn County Historic Preservation Grant Program. Members are volunteers appointed by the Board of Supervisors for a 3-year term. They possess an interest or expertise in architecture, architectural history, historic preservation, planning, building rehabilitation, conservation in general, or real estate.
Linn County is a Certified Local Government (CLG) for Historic Preservation in the State of Iowa. The Linn County Historic Preservation Commissioners' responsibilities are outlined in the State Historical Society of Iowa January 2007 publication, Iowa’s Certified Local Government Program: How to Apply for and Maintain CLG Status. The Information Technology (IT) department is responsible for the security, accessibility and support of Linn County’s computer systems and networks.  Juvenile Detention & Diversion Services provides a variety of services to youth and families in Linn County. The primary sources of funding are Linn County tax dollars and money provided through purchase of service agreements with the Iowa Department of Human Services. LIFTS
 LIFTS provides safe door-to-door transportation for eligible elderly and disabled citizens in the metro area of Cedar Rapids, Marion, and Hiawatha. LIFTS also provides public transportation to all Linn County residents outside the metro area. BACK TO TOP

MHDD-Mental Health And Developmental Disability Services

Linn County Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities (MHDD) Services is the county agency responsible for managing the funding for services for people with intellectual disabilities, mental illness, or developmental disabilities. This is done through the Central Point of Coordination office. The agency also provides direct services for people with disabilities through LInn County Service Coordination/Client Counseling.  Options of Linn County works with community businesses in providing employment services to adults with disabilities. Options is a publicly operated service provider within the Linn County Community Services department. Options serves over 350 people annually.

Purchasing Division
 The Linn County Purchasing Division is located at the Jean Oxley Linn County Public Service Center at 935 Second St. SW in Cedar Rapids.
The Linn County Purchasing Division handles the procurement of goods and services for the county. The goal of the Purchasing Division is to ensure that the county receives the best products and services at the lowest possible price. The Purchasing Division is also responsible for the operation of the county's mailroom.

Recorder
 The Linn County Recorder's Office is located on the second floor of the Jean Oxley Linn County Public Service Center at 935 Second St. SW in Cedar Rapids.
The Linn County Recorder's office handles real estate records, birth, death and marriage records, as well as boat, snowmobile and all terrain vehicle registrations and titles. In addition, the office sells hunting, fishing and trapping licenses, including deer and turkey tags. BACK TO TOP

Risk Management
 Risk Management is located at the Jean Oxley Linn County Public Service Center at 935 Second St. SW in Cedar Rapids.
The Risk Management Department assists Linn County agencies in identifying, controlling, and minimizing loss exposures. The department also handles accident and liability claims involving Linn County owned property, striving to process citizen claims in a prompt, efficient and equitable manner. Sheriff's Office - Sheriff Brian D. Gardner
 MISSION: To protect the lives and property of the citizens of this county by providing the best, most professional law enforcement attainable.
The Linn County Sheriff's Office is the second largest sheriff's office in Iowa. Our main responsibilities include law enforcement, civil processing, and to maintain a correctional facility. The Correctional Center had an average daily population of 303 and booked in 12,319 prisoners in fiscal year 2009/2010 however this number is low due to the jail being offline part of that year because of the flood. The jails daily population average is currently 363 prisoners.
The Communications Center dispatches additional police agencies, fire departments, and ambulance services. Over 51,415 calls for service were dispatched in fiscal year 2009/2010.
The Linn County Sheriff's Office also provides a paramedic-level Rescue unit that assists with car accidents, fires, and medical calls to the residents of Linn County.

Soil Conservation
 MISSION: The Linn County Soil Conservation Department's mission is to assist landowners, operators, and other entities of Linn County with soil and water conservation planning and implementation of conserving practices. Treasurer
 The Linn County Treasurer's Office is located on the first floor of the Jean Oxley Linn County Public Service Center at 935 Second St. SW in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Property taxes and Motor Vehicle renewals can be paid online at www.IowaTaxAndTags.gov.
The Linn County Treasurer provides the following services: collects property tax for all real estate, mobile homes, utilities and special assessments for all tax levying and tax certifying entities of the county administers the Iowa Property Tax Credit Program conducts the annual tax sale for the collection of delinquent taxes processes vehicle transactions including title issuance, registration renewals, personalized and other special license plates, junking certificates notes and releases security interest as an agent of the State of Iowa collects road use tax (now known as Fee for New Registration) processes credit and refunds of fees administers finances, banking services, cash management and investments for the County receives all money payable to the County and acts as the central depository for all county offices and departments

Veteran Affairs

Linn County's VA-certified staff helps eligible veterans apply for compensation and pension programs to assist veterans and their dependents, including the following: -Compensation for Service-Connected Disability/Death -Non-Service-Connected Disability Pension -Death Pension for Surviving Spouse and Dependent Children -Aid and Attendance for Nursing Home and Housebound Veterans -Appeals of Unfavorable VA Rulings -Eligibility Verification Reports (EVR) -Application for Iowa Veterans Home
The staff also assists with: -Obtaining military records and awards. -Distributing grave markers and flag holders for Linn County. -Networking with Veteran's Administration Hospitals. -Networking with other VA facilities and social service agencies. -Conducts Mind Body Medicine Support Groups for PTSD.
The veteran must have been discharged under honorable conditions and have served 90 days or more of Federal active duty service.

Youth Services
 Both Linn County Juvenile Detention and Youth Shelter used to be under the “Youth Services of Linn County” umbrella. Linn County Youth Shelter officially closed its doors on April 30, 2010. In October of 2011 there was a “reorganization” effort and the Youth Services name was changed to Linn County Juvenile Detention & Diversion Services. The Juvenile Detention Center and multiple detention diversion programs now fall under the new title. BACK TO TOP
