Linn County will celebrate National County Governmnet Month in April with several opportunities for employees, residents and officials to participate in activities related to the theme: Healthy Counties, Healthy Families.
Sponsored by the National Association of Counties, National County Government Month (NCGM) helps raise awareness and understanding about the roles and responsibilities of county government.
April 7 – Live Healthy Linn 5K run/walk, 8 a.m. registration / 9 a.m. race start, Linn County Public Health, 501 13th St. NW, Cedar Rapids. Linn County Conservation is donating cabin reservations as prizes and the Secondary Road department is helping coordinate route safety. This race is also in support of National Public Health Week: A Healthier America Begins Today, promoting disease prevention, safety and wellness in our community.
April 15 – 2 Your Health Expo. Visit Linn County’s booth at the CBS 2 & Fox 28 Health Expo at The Hotel at Kirkwood Center, 7725 Kirkwood Boulevard SW, Cedar Rapids, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. For more information, visit www.2yourhealthexpo.com.
April 18 – State of the County luncheon, 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., The Hotel at Kirkwood Center, 7725 Kirkwood Boulevard SW, Cedar Rapids. This event is open to the public and sponsored by the League of Women Voters. Lunch tickets may be ordered by calling the League of Women Voters treasurer at (319) 393-1549. Free seating is provided for individuals who want to attend only for the program.
April 21 – Eco-Fest Healthy Counties, Healthy Families 5K run/walk sponsored by Linn County. 4 p.m. registration / 6 p.m. race start. Registration & packet pick-up is in the Bottleworks parking lot. The Healthy Counties, Healthy Families 5K run/walk is part of the day-long Eco-Fest in New Bohemia. Visit http://ecofestcr.wordpress.com for more information about the day-long festivities.
Employee Wellness Walk Challenge. The Board of Supervisors and the employee Health Awareness Committee challenges Linn County employees to walk for a minimum of 15 minutes every Friday in April. Walk on your morning or afternoon break. Organize a challenge in your department or with another department. In addition to celebrating National County Government Month, the Employee Wellness Walk Challenge supports the City of Cedar Rapids Blue Zones Project – a community-by-community movement to improve the well-being of Iowans. The walk also supports Governor Terry Branstad’s Healthiest State Initiative which aims to make Iowa the healthiest state in the nation in five years.
Rotary Speakers. Linn County officials will be the guest speakers at the Cedar Rapids Downtown Rotary during National County Government Month in April.
