Linn County West is the name given to the temporary Linn County offices in the former Steve & Barrys store at Westdale Mall in Cedar Rapids. County offices relocated to this location due to the 2008 flood. Linn County does not own this space. Linn County is renting this space from a private owner and is reimbursed for the cost by FEMA as part of the post-flood temporary relocation program. Reimbursement by FEMA will end in May 2012, at which time the lease would have to be paid for by Linn County tax dollars.
The offices located on the upper floor of Linn County West, including Community Services, General Assistance, Mental Health & Developmental Disabilities and Veteran Affairs, and the I.T. Department located on the lower level, are moving to the new Community Services Building of Linn County in August 2011. The address for this new building is 1240 26th Ave. Ct. SW in Cedar Rapids.
The Board of Supervisors, Human Resources, Finance & Budget, Risk Management, Planning & Development, Auditor, Recorder, Treasurer and Linn County Assessor are located on the lower level and will return to the Jean Oxley Linn County Public Service Center in spring 2012.
Small Claims and Traffic Court, also located on the lower level, will return to the Linn County Courthouse once the renovations there are complete in 2012. Juvenile Court will move to the new Juvenile Justice Center in fall 2011.
