Linn County FY18 public budget meetings begin Nov. 16

Linn County’s fiscal year 2018 (FY18) budget will be developed over the next three months during a series of public meetings between the Linn County Board of Supervisors, other Linn County elected officials and department heads.

More than 25 public meetings are currently scheduled between the first meeting on Nov. 16 and the public hearing for the proposed budget on March 15, 2017. All meetings are held at the Linn County Public Service Center, 935 2nd St. SW in Cedar Rapids. Meeting dates, times and agendas will be posted on Linn County’s website at www.linncounty.org at least 24 hours in advance of the meetings.

Residents have the opportunity to provide comments on the development of Linn County’s FY18 budget during the annual Public Budget Forum on Monday, Nov. 21 at 5 p.m.

November Schedule:

• November 16, 2016: 10 a.m. Board of Supervisors – discuss budget initiatives and guidelines
• November 21, 2016: 9 a.m. Board of Supervisors – decide budget initiatives and guidelines
• November 21, 2016: 5 p.m. Public Budget Forum
• November 22, 2016: 8 a.m. Department Head Meeting – Budget Update

A budget calendar for the entire FY18 budget process is posted on the Linn County website; however the dates are subject to change so please check the Agendas & Minutes section on Linn County’s website 24 hours in advance for the most up-to-date information or sign-up to receive email and/or text notification of Board of Supervisors meetings and agendas at www.linncounty.org under Notify Me.

Fiscal year 2018 begins July 1, 2017 and ends June 30, 2018.

Linn County has successfully maintained its Aaa bond rating and has received the following awards from the Government Finance Officers Association for consistently exercising sound fiscal management and reporting:

• Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting – 27 consecutive years
• Distinguished Budget Presentation Award - 21 consecutive years
• Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting - 18 consecutive years.
