April 3, 2018: Special Elections

General Information

Special elections will be held on April 3, 2018 for the following jurisdictions:
  • City of Alburnett: To fill council member vacancy
  • Alburnett Community School District: Public Measure - Physical Plant and Equipment Levy
  • Mount Vernon Community School District: Public Measure - General Obligation Bonds
Items of Interest:
  • Pre-Registration ends Friday, March 23, 2018 at 5:00 p.m.
  • NEW: Absentee ballot request forms must be received by Friday, March 23, 2018.
  • In-person absentee voting will begin on Thursday, March 15th and run through Monday, April 2nd until 5:00 p.m. 
  • Poll locations will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Poll Locations


Voters for both the city of Alburnett and Alburnett Community School District will be voting at the Alburnett United Methodist Church located at 221 S Main Ave, Alburnett.

Voters in Mount Vernon Community School District will vote at Mount Vernon City Hall. City hall is located at 213 1st St NW in Mount Vernon.

Poll locations will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2018.

Satellite Information

A satellite station may be requested by filing a petition with the Election Services Department. The petition must contain signatures of at least 100 eligible electors living in the jurisdiction. The petition must be filed with the county auditor conducting the election by the filing deadlines listed in ยง53.11, which varies by election type.

The deadline to submit petitions for satellite station is Friday, March 2nd by 5:00 p.m..

Absentee Voting Information

Absentee ballot request forms must be received by Friday, March 23, 2018.

Ballots mailed back to our office must be postmarked by April 2, 2018 in order to have the ballot counted. Voters may request a postmark at the Post Office.

Early voting will begin in our office on Thursday, March 15, 2018 and will run through Monday, April 2, 2018.  

Our office is located at 935 2nd Street SW in Cedar Rapids.


Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
