August 1, 2017: County Special Election

General Information

A countywide special election will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2017.

Linn County voters will be asked to select one of three county supervisor representation plans:
  • Plan "one." At large and without district requirements for the members
  • Plan "two." At large but with equal-population district residence requirements for the members.
  • Plan "three." From single-member equal-population districts in which the electors of each district shall elect one member who must reside in that district.
Linn County is currently a plan "three" county.

Items of Interest:
  • Pre-Registration ends Friday, July 21, 2017 at 5:00 p.m.
  • In-person absentee voting will begin on Thursday, June 22nd and run through Monday, July 31st until 5:00 p.m. Our office will be closed on July 4, 2017.
  • Poll locations will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 1, 2017.
  • Voters will need to use their General Election Poll Location.

Poll locations will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 1st.

Satellite Information

A satellite station may be requested by filing a petition with the Election Services Department. The petition must contain signatures of at least 100 eligible electors living in the jurisdiction. The petition must be filed with the county auditor conducting the election by the filing deadlines listed in ┬ž53.11, which varies by election type.

The deadline to submit petitions for satellite station is Friday, June 30th by 5:00 p.m..

The last day the Election Department may send out a ballot is Friday, July 28, 2017 at 5:00 p.m.

Ballots mailed back to our office must be postmarked by July 31, 2017 in order to have the ballot counted. Voters may request a postmark at the Post Office.

Early voting will begin in our office on Thursday, June 22, 2017 and will run through Monday, July 31, 2017.  

Our office is located at 935 2nd Street SW in Cedar Rapids.


Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Our office will be closed on July 4, 2017.
