Linn County purchased the Mott building, located at 42 Seventh Ave. SW in Cedar Rapids, in 1995 and used it as warehouse space until 2008.
In 2014, Linn County issued a Request for Proposals (RFPs) for the sale of the building. Following a detailed review of proposals, Linn County accepted the proposal from Hobart Historic Restoration for $500,000. Hobart's redevelopment plans for the building include mixed use residential and commercial space. The sale of the building to Hobart Historic Restoration was completed Sept. 1, 2015.
The Linn County Historic Preservation Commission successfully listed the Mott Building on the National Register of Historic Places on Nov. 6, 2012. It is listed on the Register as the Iowa Windmill and Pump Company Office and Warehouse.
